2. Are there different types of cookies?

First-party and third-party cookies:

First-party cookies are set directly by us to adapt our services to your preferences and better understand your usage. Third-party cookies are set by our partners and service providers. You can review these through our consent management tools available on our website and within the application.

Session and persistent cookies:

3. What about SDKs and other tracking technologies?

We also use software development kits (SDKs), web beacons, pixel tags, and tracking URLs for similar purposes to cookies. SDKs are small pieces of code embedded in the app that function like cookies. Web beacons are tiny graphics files with a unique identifier enabling us to recognize when someone has visited our service or opened an email we sent them. Tracking URLs are custom links that help us map where our traffic originates. For simplicity, we refer to all of these technologies as “cookies” throughout this Policy.

5. Sensitive information — heightened protections

Because Scuba processes information that is inherently sensitive in the context of a dating application, we apply the following additional safeguards:

  • Retargeting pixels and advertising SDKs will never transmit data revealing that a user is on a dating application, or any profile attributes relating to orientation, identity, religion, or relationship preferences.

  • Granular in-app event data (e.g. “matched with user,” “sent message”) is not shared with external advertising vendors.

  • Analytics data shared with third-party processors is pseudonymized and aggregated wherever technically feasible.

6. Third-Party Service Providers and SDKs

We use third-party software development kits (SDKs), and service providers to help us operate, secure, and improve the Platform. These providers may process personal information on our behalf in connection with the functions described in this Policy.

We require third-party SDK and cookie providers to process personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected, in accordance with our instructions, and subject to appropriate contractual safeguards. We do not authorize SDK or cookie providers to use personal information collected through the Platform for their own independent purposes without your separate consent.

A current list of the third-party SDK and tracking providers we use, together with a description of their function and a link to their applicable privacy documentation, is available by contacting us at the address in Section 13. We will update that list when we add or remove providers in a manner that materially affects how your personal information is processed, and will provide notice through the Platform where required by applicable law.

Land Acknowledgment

We acknowledge that our work is rooted in Tkaronto, the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

As a company dedicated to building meaningful relationships, we recognize that reconciliation begins with understanding and respect. We are committed to learning from Indigenous teachings that emphasize deep connection; to self, to one another, and to the Earth.

We also acknowledge that building digital technology carries a physical footprint. That’s why we are actively working to reduce our environmental impact, striving to create a digital space that respects both the people who use it and the planet that sustains us.
